On Tuesday night he while M’Levy and Mulholland, two police-offices were going their rounds in Rutland Square, the met a man carrying a large bag on his back, and woman in company, whom they allowed to proceed into Rutland Street, and then seized the man who immediately threw down the bag, and made stout resistance; however, the officers secured him and on searching him found a kitchen poker in his coat pocket. On examining the bag, they found a great quantity of wrights tools, which he had stolen by means of breaking into an unfinished house in the Square. The tools were all claimed in the course of the evening by the tradesmen and it appears that the doors of the house had been forced by means of the poker found in the possession of the thief. He has been remitted for trial. Great credit is due to the officers for this activity. During the struggle with the man the officers, the woman got off, but she was in custody in half an hour.
