Death of a well known detective

James M’Levy, the well-known detective, died on Saturday afternoon at the advanced age of eighty years. It will be remembered that as a reward for thirty-two years of active service the Town Council granted him a pension about 12 years ago. He enjoyed some reputation, not only in Edinburgh but throughout Scotland, as the author of two volumes published in 1858-59, entitled “The Sliding Scale of Life” and “The Curiosities of Crime in Edinburgh.” For a considerable time before his death Mr M’Levy was unable to leave his bed.
