James McLevy Retiral

The Lord Provost’s Committee, in reference to the petition of James M’Levie, principal criminal officer, praying to be relieved from ordinary duty, recommended that he should be retained on the force at a salary of £1, 1s. per week, and his duties made as light as possible.

The LORD PROVOST, in moving that the recommendation be adopted, said Mr M’Levie well deserved any favour which the Council could show him for the zeal which had for so many years marked his services. He had a remarkable faculty of identifying thieves—which his Lordship believed they were fully aware of—and he had no doubt that his connection with the police force being preserved would be of considerable advantage to the authorities.

The recommendation was agreed to.
