Lady’s Shoes Theft

On Saturday, a pair of lady’s shoes were stolen from a shop in Queen Street, and intimation of the theft was immediately given at the Police Office. M’Levy, one of the criminal officers, was sent out on the search, and in passing along the North Bridge met the son of a well known dealer in small wares. Without much ceremony, M’Levy pulled him into a staircase, and found upon him the identical shoes, as described— brought him to the Police Office, where the Sheriff was sitting in judgment, and in less than an hour and a half from the time the theft was committed, the thief (it being his first proved offence) was sentenced to ten days’ confinement, and the shoes were returned to their lawful owner.
